Discover Rocamadour from the campsite
Nestled in the heart of the Haut Quercy, Rocamadour is characterised by its houses clinging to the cliffs overlooking the Alzou valley with a 150m difference in height. At the top, its castle dominates the village.
For centuries, Rocamadour has been a stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The city has kept prestigious monuments from the medieval period, such as the Basilica of Saint-Sauveur and the Crypt of Saint-Amadour, both of which are listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. It was elected the favourite village of the French in 2016.
Go and see its Black Madonna and walk through its streets in the evening, away from the crowds.
You can visit the Rocher des Aigles, a renowned falconry located on a rocky promontory. It has over sixty different species of birds and over 400 birds. A grandiose show is open to all and allows the spectators to learn about the way of life and the habitat of these birds.
The bee house is a free museum entirely dedicated to the life of domestic bees. Through a bay, visitors can watch the permanent spectacle of a living apiary. This very instructive and interesting visit will delight young and old alike.
Finally, you can continue your visit to the Monkey Forest, which is home to 150 free-ranging macaques on 20 hectares. During your walk, you will appreciate the contact with the Barbary macaques, originally from North Africa and classified as an endangered species since 2008.

Rocamadour is also known for its famous local products. Its famous cheese made from whole, raw goat’s milk has been awarded the AOP, a distinction worthy of its quality. Rocamadour PDO can be eaten fresh or dry.
The Quercy walnut has also been awarded the AOP label, the official sign of its quality. It can be discovered in the form of a pie, ideal for tasting!
